Why I Shoot in a Documentary Style
On patience, staying quiet, and why the unposed frame almost always outlives the arranged one.
The story / June 14, 2026
Documentary photography means waiting instead of arranging. It is harder work — you cannot force a genuine moment into existence — but the frames that come out of it carry a truth that no directed pose can imitate.
Practically, it means I use longer lenses, move slowly, and give people room to forget me. A nervous subject looks at the camera; a comfortable one looks at the person they love, and that is the picture I want.
This is also why my galleries read like stories rather than checklists. Years from now the small, true moments — the glances, the hands, the laughter mid-sentence — are the ones you will return to.
