How to Prepare for Your Portrait Session
Everything you need to do before the camera comes out — from sleep and water to wardrobe choices that photograph beautifully.
The story / September 18, 2026
The best portrait sessions begin days before the shutter clicks. Get a full night of sleep, drink more water than you think you need, and arrive with your outfit steamed and ready. Skin photographs better hydrated than masked, so keep your routine simple in the final week.
Wardrobe is where most people overthink. Bring two or three outfits at most: one that feels like you on a good day, one slightly sharper, and one relaxed. Solid tones and subtle textures hold up far better than busy patterns, which distract the eye from your face.
Finally, treat the session as a conversation rather than a performance. The strongest portraits come roughly twenty minutes in, once the initial stiffness fades. We will walk, talk, and let the genuine expressions surface on their own schedule.
